Lots in Maggie Valley

You know what I like to do? I like to count mountain ranges. The higher I am on the mountain the better. I was at Appalachian Village in Maggie Valley and looking north and east I could count over eight mountain ranges. I had money on the fact that I could see Crabtree Bald. Lot 27-1 is stunning and impressive. It is 1.5 acres with a cleared out house site and a really well built driveway. The work was so perfect that I asked for the grader's name and phone number. Lot 28 and 27-2 are more tucked in which Tom and Gary really liked. Still offering some wow views but hugged with impressive trees. The prices are most affordable especially $59,900, $69,900, $79,900....lots in Haywood County are above the $100,000 mark on the average. So to see lots under 100 is great. See you out there. Call me I'll come count ridges with you.

Land for sale Max Patch

Land for sale Max Patch

I hiked John's land today with some folks out of Florida. There was something different about this day in that it came to me as the hottest day of the entire decade. Even the folks at 4000, above sea level were sweating today. These are the days when north facing mountains become more and more attractive. The land is only 37 acres but every bit of this tract is usable which makes for a solid hike. We strolled around the pond, the trail that leads to Pisgah National Forest, the cabin and anywhere where the grass wasn't high enough to touch my lips or thorns big enough to rip my skin. It was hot but it felt so good to be out there so far from it all yet in it all. The grass smelled really green and even sounded thirsty from this drought we're having. After a few hours of Max Patch we had to go and I found myself wanting to stay. I wanted to find a quiet spot on the highest point and just sit in the quiet of that area. But all I could think about was that my "inbox" was full and I had to get back and reply, reply, reply. I'll be back because lucky me I get to do this every day!!

Asheville Condominium

Asheville
I shopped for condominiums in Asheville the other day. You might scratch your head about the land gal looking at condominiums but a friend of mine really wanted to see a few to see if any would interest her. Battery Park! wow! Too sweet! That was all a different scene for me running around down town Asheville with lockbox in hand and in a suit. A far cry from my jeans, Jeep and hiking boots but taking a different route to work at times wakes you up, you know? The day before I was on an ATV riding 599 acres and the day after I was hiking 20 acres I have listed in Sandy Mush. By the way if you've never been to Sandy Mush near Asheville you would simply wonder?sorry I can get side tracked easily. So in summary those Asheville condominiums are simply a dream. I would go again anytime. My friend is seriously considering one at Battery Park which would be dreamy since it would be a part time apartment. Guess what that means to this friend? You know it! See you at Wasabi!

Exit 3

I have had the pleasure of "having" to preview some large tracts for a Texas client recently. The search has even taken me to Tennessee. Because of the previews I've found a new favorite area in the mountains. Let's call it Exit 3. Take a drive on I26 north from Asheville and you will understand what I'm talking about when you hit exit 9 and beyond. I can close my eyes and see it still. It has been appropriately designated an NC Scenic Highway. While you're at it don't think your eyes will let go of that majestic tree at the visitor center. I took Exit 3 and I stopped at the gas station there off the exit and after talking to some locals headed out to look at some land. Boy of Boy! Just simply splendid some of the best looking areas in WNC. I'm looking forward to heading back there tomorrow for about 5 or six hours. So if I go missing look for me around Exit 3...
See you on the mountain

Biltmore House Summer Evening Concerts

Just celebrated another year on this sphere and I won't lie about my age but no need to share it either'lol. I received birthday wishes from everyone that matters. I got to see a B52 concert on the side lawn of the Biltmore House (Asheville). Now that is always special. If you've never been, take a minute go on their site and ck out the summer concerts. There should be one that you might like. The skies, the sound, the people, the air, the house all of it was amazing and special. Did I mention the Biltmore wine' Every concert at the Biltmore House I remember clearly and you will too. Now, I am not a live music kind of girl because I like the sound of music on my IPod. I like that it's clear and precise but the sound out there is special, clear and precise. Maybe it's because it's outdoors'who knows'it just rocks. See you at the next one.

Asheville Asheville Asheville

Asheville has this quality that is hard to name. Folks talk about the birth of San Francisco when they look at Asheville for the first time. Just the other day I had a client with me and after a long day I decided to run into Carmel's for a martini. We sat with the setting sun and and all the posh people around us and the funny thing was that I too was enamoured with Asheville just as enamoured as those eyes sitting across me seeing it all for the first time. I forget to look around with those wondering eyes that the newbies have. I forget to really see Asheville for the crazy place that it is so full of energy and great people. Folks that are moving to Asheville can live anywhere in the world and I always wonder: Why Here? Then I take another sip of that rasberry wonder and I look around and understand. It's just cool!

Midnight Hole

Midnight Hole

If you get too busy to hike in the Great Smoky National Park every so often you should buy a water bottle put some hikers on and simply head out. What a great gift to drive 30 minutes from my front door and be in the greatest park in the nation.

I'm not sure why they call it the Midnight Hole but who cares what they call what? It is definitely a stunning hike and destination. The hike was short and hot, only 1.5 miles up and 1.5 miles back, so really perfect for the beginners. The treat: a striking natural pool with a 10' water fall and 20' rocks that just drop into the water. Those massive rocks invite thrill seekers that love the dive risk and make me hold my breath every time. I had to stop looking after a while as I couldn't remember my CPR counts. Is it 2 compressions and 5 breaths or 1 breath 15 compressions? Who cares I'm just glad I didn't have to swim into that Titanic cold water and save 'them there nuts'.

Mother Nature folks at its best for sure. The ferns are healthy, the mushrooms colorful, the trunks ancient, the water clear, the fish plentiful and the July temperature simply splendid. Now has anyone ever seen a miniature lobster in a mountain creek? I have witnesses but no pictures. That little thing looked very out of place but I mean to tell you that was definitely a little lobster, no question. I have to Google that and see what I find.

See you out there!

Simply the Thursday before Friday

Any day in these mountains is a good day. I heard lots of complaints regarding the heat and humidity today. I think if I had hiked land today I would have probably complained as much but today was an air-conditioned day for me. So since tomorrow I have to hike a few 20 to 40 acre tracts I will probably join the droves of folks who are talking about the heat. I can personally say that this year has in no way come even close to 2006 and 2005. This year has been considerably mild compared to those two monsters. Remember, the heat only makes you appreciate the coming months a whole lot more. So just enjoy it because that's all we can do. Let's just hope for another sweet cold front.

*Don't forget the Folkmoot Parade in Waynesville tomorrow at 1pm. I'll be at the office on Main Street come by say hello!

Slow Down But No Crash

My brother Tommy makes fun of me because I turn everything into an analogy. Recently I've taken inventory and I guess I do. This real estate market makes me think of thousands of analogies but the one that stands out the most is that we are NOT in a crash just simply the traffic and slow down of someone else's crash. It hurts but we're moving. A cousin of mine, who is a farmer, said that "we have to give back". He takes from the earth year after year and the earth gives back to him year after year and then there is that "one" year where he neither takes nor does it give. I'm just glad I'm in WNC because although slow it's still moving. Patience Jackie Patience!
How about that other news? The "other" market hit the 14,000 mark? Can I get a WooHoo?!!@#@#%!!

Morehouse Got Married

I sat under the most magnificent tree yesterday. If I had to take a guess it had to have been about 300 to 400 years old and all I could do was sit in wonder under its shade. I've always said I'm going to find a tree and buy the land around it. This place would certainly do it for me. But I was not there to work I was there to witness a marriage. Gary and Ellen! Thank you for the invite to one of the sweetest weddings I've had the opportunity to attend. Now I know that no one from Southern Living Magazine was the master of ceremony but it sure seemed like at least the pictures should make it to the publication because it was simply perfect.

I stood at a conservative distance since I was still in my uniform. It was show up in my uniform or change and miss it and although tacky I thought my choice was honest. Ellen looked innocent and angelic. Everything from the wild flowers, the linen pants, the white tent, the Mojitos, the candles hanging from that old oak, Jose's food, the candles in the mason jars and the hope and happiness that permeated all of them. It was classy, simple and simply beautiful.

Thanks for the invite Gary. Best wishes to you both.
