Memorial Day in the Mountains
So today was parade day, picnic day, friends day, remembrance day and sneeze day for ME all the way around! Too many people mowing too many yards. I was looking for a walk in cooler so I could hide from the pollen but I just gave up and went home and hid in my air condition. That was my first allergy event for the year so I would say that I am doing well so far.
On another note, my friend Rolando informed me that next Saturday we are going on a 62 mile bicycle ride from Asheville to Marshall. I'm pretty sure he told me it was a benefit run but I guess I'll learn more about it later on in the week. I'm excited and nervous about it since there will certainly be folks there who ride more and better than me. In the end once I'm on the bike and I get past the first 15 to 20 minutes nothing matters, it all goes away and all I hear is my breath and the air flying past my ears. Then I ride until I just can't ride anymore.
On a land business note, I listed two lots in Mosa Meadows for $50,000 per lot. If you know of anyone that is interested in land banking on a low scale...these lots would be just the lots for them. Southern exposure, view of Cold Mountain, Mt. Pisgah and of Pisgah valley. They would be great lots to build a dream mountain cabin where you could sit and enjoy a really good glass of vino while you counted the stars. Call me and let's go take a look.
See you in the mountains

Cody's Fly Fishing Class
Fly Fishing....AHHHHHH!
I liked it. I gave it my first try just yesterday after work and I think I really like it. I never thought that I would be out there with a fly fishing rod in hand accompanied by the cutest of 11 year olds learning where to wade and to cast. I had to learn to look at water with awareness, learning to keep my eye on the fly, learning the 10 to 2 move and all the other learining that come from trying something new.
Cody, my nephew, is a natural sportsman. You know how some people are just naturals at whatever they love? Well, Cody thrives outdoors. He literally blends into nature like no other person I know and it turns out he is a great instructor. I followed him and did everything he told me to do and was successful in catching 2 rainbows. Too small to keep/eat but he said they were good enough. He praised me like I like to be praised and told me I was good. Now what girl wouldn't like to hear that 24/7?
I'm not sure if it was the fishing, the environment, the sunset, the cascading water, the rocks, the company or the combination of it all that made me fell "present" in every way.
If you want to learn to fly fish Cody is a fantastic instructor. He has the wisdom of an old farmer, the looks of a Hollywood actor and the patience of a saint. He is where he has to be when he is outdoors.
See you out there!

Yup it's here...
Spring brings the flowers, the Florida tags the birds, the Florida tags, the warmth and the Florida tags. I've already gotten to see the daffodils, a Blue Herron, broke a sweat and pointed at a couple of tags. Welcome everyone it's good to have you back. I'm done waiting for spring because now it's here. That's the beauty of these mountains, just when you've had enough of one it politely departs and welcomes the next.
I'm going to cylcle tomorrow. I'm cheating and going up to Marshall from Asheville on an easy road. Instead of a climb it will just be a really long ride. It doesn't matter I heard it will be a beautiful sunny and warm day and 40+ miles of pedaling is commendable in my book.
If you know me enough you know that I can be random at times. So, here is my random for the day:
I read something yesterday that really caught my attention. The Dalai Lama said that:
If there is no solution then why worry.
If there is a solution then why worry.
I liked it. I think I'll have to remember to remember it later on this year.
By the way Patches is sitting next to me shaking to the sound of the thunder out there right now. This is the second storm rolling through and it should be gone in a few hours. I welcome the rain and I, unlike patches, love the sound of thunder. So let me turn off this computer and sit and pet "shaky" over there while I enjoy what makes her nuts. Life is so relative...isn't it?
See you in the woods!

Is it spring yet or what?
I felt spring at my heels today. The temperature and the time change did it for me. I really enjoyed that it was 7:15 pm and I didn't have to turn on the lights. Let me not forget the ever faithful springtime indicator the daffodil! They were out today in full force.
I'm ready to see the leaves again, hide my long sleeves deep in my closet, dive into lake water and ride my bicycle until my legs and I have a fight. I rode along the French Broad the other day and it occurred to me that I want to ride from Amboy Road to downtown Marshall. I'll have to talk my friend into doing it with me. I also want to ride from my house to the top of Eagle's Nest Road and back. I'll wait for the next really warm day and make sure I eat my Wheaties.
Do you feel it? It's starting to get really busy. That busy feeling that we get every spring when folks' excitement about WNC is alive and well. I'm really looking forward to this year...it's gonna be a great one!

Those little things....
Now that I can identify the tourist in the grocery store, does that make me a local?
There are so many things that I like about living in the mountains. I like that the view "always" changes. I like that the horn is hardly ever used. I have actually sat thru an entire green light and not a single driver honked the horn. Can you believe that? I couldn't either but since it happened more than once I can't call it random.
I like it, that even though it's not the law, folks pull over for the traffic of a funeral procession. I also really like it when I drive into remote areas of Haywood, Buncombe, Madison, Jackson or any other mountain region that folks still make eye contact and wave as they pass you. Love is in the little things and this area is full of them.
See you in the woods,

For Sure!
There are places; moments and people that I know for sure make all the sense that sense has to offer. Like the first time I came to WNC. I knew for sure that it was just right for me. All of it was just right. I know when I see sun rays spear thru dark clouds and find their landing on the top of a massive mountain, I know for sure I feel appreciation for being. Then there are people you meet along your journey that you know for sure are simply genuine and it makes sense that you met them. When you meet them you just KNOW. I'm babbling and I know it but there's this certainty I feel today that I didn't feel yesterday. I guess, what I'm saying is that to know for sure is better than to own a "maybe" and it feels good when I know something or someone for sure. Sometimes it all feels just right.
See you on the mountain,

It's Windy
This winter has brought back the cold that I'd missed the last few winters. I still miss the snow and I think if I miss is enough it will bring the dreamy white stuff. No hiking took place today but yesterday I went to take a look at the surveyed lines of a 38 acre parcel that I am listing out in Fines Creek (Haywood County). The list price will be $411,000 and the 38 acres comes with a cute little log cabin. If you've ever wanted to share a property line with a National Forest call Jackie to show you this awesome mountain. 828-507-0896

Sunday Feb 10, 2008
I get so very busy that I'm sure my Blog gets lonely. It's been quite the interesting winter so far. We have land buyer and seller activity. People ask me all the time if I think the market it horrible. I can't answer yes to that but I can say that all in all it is a market that has a living pulse...so let's leave it there.
This Sunday morning is a computer and email morning. So I'll enjoy the silence for a bit longer.
This week I have to go walk a property line on a 38 acre parcel that backs up to Pisgah National Forest. It will go on the market some time the following wk and the price should stay at about 11K per acre...the seller will not place any value to the cute log cabin that comes with it (yes you read it right!). If you like it quiet and you like to hike or hunt or total privacy then you should really call me and come take a look at this really cool tract. Jackie Likes It!Grand panoramic vistas go a long way when looking for serenity.
On a personal note:
A good friend of mine and I rode out to Crabtree the other day from Waynesville and although it was only a 20 mile ride it felt sooooo good to be out there again.
Other than just keeping busy with the land sales life is good...really good. Ok so I'm talking about my personal life a bit. Not details necessary it's just all great.
Can't wait for another sneaky warm day to give me a few hours on my bike.

Happy Holidays
So the year is almost over and I can say that 2007 was most certainly an altering year. Not only for me but it turns out for so many other people as well.
I find that although I like all the excitement that life offers I can also pout when I can't find my routine. There is something to be said about continuity but definitely more about change.
Land sales this year were great and the people I worked with were even better. My boots got a good workout and so did Tom and Gary's. If you happen to have worked with anyone at LandCrazy.com I thank you for your business and hope that your experience was a good one.My team and I have moved to 128 North Main Street in Waynesville. So if you have a chance come by and check out our new address we would love to see you.
I just got a phone call from a good friend who claims to be making some Cuban food and Mojitos today....So guess what? I have to run..lol!
See you on the mountain...

Change of Pace
It has been a while since I last entered in my blog. I guess I could say that I've been busy. Working lots. Folks looking for land for sale even in the cold. I've decided to hook up the internet at my house again since I wake up at all kinds of odd hours and could use the time to blog, research and even return emails.
It's cold out there so the bike riding has slowed down and I find myself very dissapointed about it. Currently I'm in search of new physical activities to make up for those long hours on a bike that are just not happening.
It's brown and cold out but the ski slopes are open and Nancy invited me to go up with her tomorrow. I have to get that into my schedule for sure. Although I hate those first few minutes before the first run I know that I enjoy the rest of the season. I understand Cataloochee Ski is open and so is Sugar and Beech...Let's go ski!
