Tomato Tuesday Asheville

So there's this night at The New French Bar that is called Tomato Tuesday. And the other night I went with some friends to see what it was all about. I have to tell you that it was so totally cool. It appears that when a stand up comic was not up to Asheville standards you could throw tomatoes up at the stage to inform him of his "suckiness" and ask him to depart. In the end I think our croud had manners and not one tomato wizzed passed my front row ears but the first guy sure did desserved it. The second guy was an angry bloak fron England but angry in a funny funny way. I love how commedians really see the world and take the mundane and twist it into commedy. The rasta hair chick was hysterical especially when she talked about her shortcicle boyfriend. The PBR lick was priceless...All in all it was a great couple of hours. You can drink and eat while enjoying the minds of some funny Ashevillians. This place is too fun...but now I must hike.
See you on the mountain...

It feels like we have a pulse...

In the last few weeks we've had good traffic to LandCrazy.com and in our offices. Buyers seem to have found the hope that they/we had lost for a while. I heard that we've moved our infamous "economy" from the ER to ICU. I thought that was a good analogy. Still not out of the woods but there sure are happier people out there.

By now everyone knows I have to talk about land ALL THE TIME. I'm either in love or obssessed but when I see somthing really great I feel the urge to share.
Just a few days ago Kathy and I hiked 25 acres in the Fines Creek Community of Hayood County here in NC and man oh man was that sugar! It has a modest home on it, a couple of babling creeks and picture puuuuurfect pasture. There are these picturesque barns and most of it rolls like the postcard pasture rolls.

I know that when people think of a North Carolina farm, ranch or simply a land tract this is the picture they have in mind. The Sellers want 265K for both parcels combined. It's two brothers selling adjacent property. The view from the pasture is down the Max Patch corridor and so the views are long and short range. Lucky cows, the ones that live there! You can live in the small house while you build your mountain dream home up a bit higher. Keep the small house for guest or sell it since it sits at the edge of the land.

Anyway, the possibilities are endless here. You can do so much or nothing at all. This is an excellent parcel if you are looking to self sustain, a mini hobby farm, a tract the family/friends can share etc.

Ok. I'll quit yaking so much. I just want to say that if you've been looking for land in WNC that looks postcard perfect you will want to check this one out just as soon as possible. LandCrazy.com only has one of the parcels listed but we can help you with all of it. Give us a ring 888-507-0896...

See you on the mountain....

Rain Rain Rain WNC

Selling land in the mountains is a real treat. Some folks would not like it so much in the rain though! I've heard so many complaints about the rain lately but I just know that I can't chime in because we've needed it so much. I look around and see thirst all over me. We are a forested region and trees require an enourmous amount of water. Spring is just splendid and I'm glad that things are finally beginning to look up.
The rain I can deal with it's the economy talk that torments. If I never hear that word again....Remember "fat free" this and that? Man was I done with that when I was done with that. Good healing will take place. It has been a true correction or should I say severe but necessary one.
Before I forget last Tuesday we previewed a house that has an additional tract available for sale. So the total acreage would be 25 and a small house and a couple of dreamy barns for 265K...Fines Creek. Oh my goodness is it a splending feeling up on those bald knolls atop grassy fields. If you liked "The Sound of Music"...I'm here to tell you you will love this place. Call me. I seriously can't wait to get out there again. Be my reason.
See you in the MOUNTAINS!!!

I sat through a red light..

You know there is so much to love about living in the right zip code. One simple example is that every time I sit through a red light or realize that I've been holding up the line at a stop sign, without ONE horn blasting at me, I love this place even more. I have to confess that if, on the rare occasion, someone lays on the horn I will proceed and pull over to confirm that the tag is not local. I do that. I do. And every time the honking tag passes me I confirm it's from out of town. My theory is that once you live here your hurry doesn't dominate your day or your drive. That's the only theory that I can come up with so far. That's all that I can imagine would make the driver behind me not honk on the horn even though we are ALL missing the green at my expense.
Since I moved here I don't honk the horn either. I like how this town is void of that sound. When I travel abroad I find that horns are the sounds that dominate the roads. Peru, Egypt, Venezuela, Belize and Mexico are few examples. Waynesville, Marshall, Hendersonville, Black Mountain and Burnsville are places that are void of all that busy sound. I guess you have to have lived in a big city to understand the quiet I speak of. I know, I know, it's a strange subject. I guess it's about as strange to the ears as when I mention to clients and friend the great sound my tires make on a gravel road. Coming from a city of concrete and asphalt I've been in love with the sound of gravel under my car and my boots since the first time I heard it. Yes that is a strange subject too. Listen to it the next time you walk on it or drive on it and you'll hear North Carolina at its best. God I love this place. Even in the dead of winter.

See you on the ski slopes.

Leonids November 17...

I was at the airport magazine rack and picked up a National Geographic adventure magazine. I landed on a page that talked about the meteor shower coming up on November 17 and it suggested that a hike into a National Forest, pitch a tent and set the alarm for 4am. I agree and finally found a few friends willing to go with me and now all I have to do is drag my newphews along as well. I haven't picked the site yet but I'm sure I'm going to be ohhhhh so cold. I heard that if you live out in the country the show will be good anyway. The moon will be full and so the shower will compete with its light. I'll have to see. Either way the camping out in November will be exciting enough. If anyone knows of the BEST place to watch it email me and share please.

Changing Leaves...Fall Western North Carolina

There is just no better time in life than those early days of fall that are crispy, clear, cool and drop dead gorgeous. You know what I'm talking about....
I question so much in life but I never question the beauty of this place (Western North Carolina). When I look up and see the colored leaves let go for the season, feel the cool on my skin, see the sweaters on the cold natured, know that my skis will soon be headed down the mountain, I know that life is good. I always remember that there are people that yearn for this place which reminds me not to fail to appreciate ALL of it...daily. I get to live it every single day. How lucky is that?
Get out there and hike, cycle, walk, feel, memorize and enjoy this beautiful season in this most enviable of places.
See you in the woods....

Western North Carolina

There are times when I visit (ATV) property for fun and then months later that run turns into work. I can say that I hope this fun ride never turns into work. I hope they never sell it and I thank them for letting me ride it. You know who you are....

I never get tired or less awed by new views. Western North Carolina is a most wonderous place to play, work and live. A good friend of mine and I worked a bit on Saturday and then...we played. I asked permission to travel on some mountain trails in Crabtree and we found ourselves breathless on the ridgetop of mountains that could see all the way to Pisgah Mt in one direction, Tennessee the other, Asheville the other and so on. Big mountain balds. When this city girl finds herself on an ATV in the middle of the mountains of Haywood, Buncombe or Madison on a clear sky day she wonders what lucky charm she picked up.
I have to tell you that on this day I hiked, picked ticks off me, picked cherries off trees, sweat until I looked ugly, rode with fervor, paused in awe, laughed like a little girl, shared like a good kindergardner and overall had one of the best days off I've had in a very long time.
Thank you my good friend for a great day off. Thank you for sharing the mountains with me and for making my day a safe one.
FYI:
Folmoot is here. Friday is the parade and then the next weekend in the Folkmoot festival and the Bellechere Music Festival. I'm glad I'll be in town and working so I get to share it with everyone.

See you on the mountain,

July 4th, July 5th, July 6th and so on...

Anyone that knows a thing or two about me knows that I sweat when I'm very nervous or simply when I'm hot. I've recently experienced both, except, the nervous I don't experience often, the HOT, I experience a lot. Especially around July and August, you'll find that I only like to hike really early in the morning or really late in the afternoon. I mean really!!!! I've learned that I'll hike through lightening before I'll hike through an afternoon of 95 degrees accompanied by some FL style humidity. I'll hike through a tick infested field in the cool of a summer morning before I'll hike through anything else.
The heat got so bad that I chopped my hair off the other day. My friend Jeanne asked me about my femininity and I told her that I would rather flipper flop femininity for an afternoon of a joyful cool scalp...LOL!

So I hope you all had a most Happy 4th of July and that family made their way to you or you to them. I hope you ate loads and drank conservatively...or the other way around is fine too. I hope that the fireworks were as good for you as they were for me. I hope that you were able to see the now as the real now and not that "non-reality" that the media wants you to see. I hope that you can love America and all the freedoms that we are still afforded and those that we will soon regain.

See you in the woods!!!

Golf......

I never would have thought that Golf would call my name at the ripe old age of 41. Ok, so at the edge of 42 but who cares. I golfed Lake Junaluska with my brother Jorge and I have to say that I might be hooked. I, absolutely, loved every minute I was out there. As I Blog, I almost want to abandon this and run to the course again.
I told Jorge that it really did not feel like exercise and that next time we should walk the course. He thought I was nuts but agreed to try it on the next run.
There was something beautiful about being outdoors, on a sunny day, chasing that little ball around. I can't explain it. Now, don't get me wrong, golf is not replacing cycling or racquetball. It's just going to find time to share me with the others. Because now I'm all about the birdie, the eagle, the bogey, the driving, the putting...I can't wait. Thanks Aunt Jo for the suggestion and the clubs. Good Idea!
The beauty of living in WNC is the beauty in WNC. It doesn't matter if you're outdoors or indoors looking out...this place is spectacular!

Memory lane...

Who would have thunk it? The year 1995 was just yesterday. I had torn my ACL playing a mean game of racquetball and while I was healing, Jonnie suggested the real estate class. I took the bait, since I had just graduated college and for some odd reason I missed the homework, the tests and the learning. I'm serious!

All those years later and now I look back and remember the MLS BOOK. Yes, the book! I remember the quarters for use of the public phone. The photo lab at Eckerd's. The geeky flyers where I glued the pictures to the paper. I remember hand delivering them to all six offices. I remember when I knew every Broker. I remember that when I missed a deadline I would have to wait 30 days until the next print. I remember the first laptop in the business and when the land phone ruled and the secretary was your voicemail. I remember when I had no clue what 5ft contour lines looked like and when GIS was kind of like back to the future and microfilm/microfishe was serious high tech stuff. I remember when we had to meet a broker for a key, or worse, having to pick up a key. No, the real worst was having to drop it back off. Hated that!

As I type into my BLOG I wonder how in the world the world took such a leap? How technology has morphed us all into these different creatures. I now have a cell phone, a website, a Blog, a GPS, lock boxes, Supra keys, a database online and with all those conveniences I now have less time to do more. Isn't that just great?@!!$^%!@%

The internet fascinates me but it also makes me pull my hair. My hard drive crashed today and I can tell you that I consider that a personal BLACKOUT day!

I'm not sure why I went down memory lane but I'm glad I do it sometimes. Just enough to remind me how good I have it...right?
